The Fraternity
of St Joseph
The St. Joseph Fraternity, born of Fr. Giussani’s charism, is made up of people who decide to dedicate their lives totally and permanently to Christ in virginity, that is, according to the Evangelical Counsels of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience.
Those who join live out their dedication, remaining in their own particular circumstances of personal and working life, in the awareness that “Baptism and Confirmation can be sufficient basis for a total dedication to Christ and to the Church” (Fr. Luigi Giussani, interview, in “30 Days” n. 5, 1989.)
Given its particular nature, this vocational companionship is aimed at realizing “a more immediate, capillary and effective penetration of the Body of Christ in the normal tissue of the Church’s life” (Luigi Giussani, Address to the St. Joseph Fraternity, August 1995.) The vocational journey consists in the memory of Christ, which is kept alive by means of occasional moments together (meetings, retreats, spiritual exercises) and by the assiduous practice of personal prayer and the sacraments.
